Growth Demands Love Among the Ruins at Lower Prices

Over 1,000 lovers died so Western garment peddlers could sell hip clothing cheaper in "more advanced and enlightened societies". Out of love, economists comfort Western clothes horses by calmly producing graphs and charts proving this sacrifice is necessary for "growth" in "less advanced societies".

And that glory and that shame alike, the gold
                                                 Bought and sold.

--- "Love Among the Ruins", Robert Browning.
