Bloodless Liquidation

Parttime masses stare
at the Sun passively.
Dust and exhaust
coat lungs.

Argent kissed land...
scorn the beggar's hand.

Cardboard signs
cry histories of penury--
some broken by war,
others malady.

Cars pass still as death.
Drivers shout at the air.

Waves of debt
crest like tsunamis
over western shores.
