Autumn Menagerie 21: The Town Crier

"By convention sweet and by convention bitter,
by convention hot, by convention cold,
by convention color: in reality atoms and void."
------------------ Democritus.

His words break the air
Like a toddler's toy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Laugh or cry
Over the gall.
We must die,
After all.

On convention: If one compromises one's authentic self, even in pursuit of an honorable life ... one gives away one's essence and loses one's spirit. It's a tremendous price to pay. For me, the difference has been if it's conscious decision or false resignation. One is necessary; the other is defeatism.

"Essence" and "Spirit" are fideistic conventions. It's know sacrifice to open yourself up to the human community and to act in grace(not the religious concept). Being honorable is better than the puerile and self-adulating concept of "aunthenticity". Any person who thinks they are "unique" is and aren't like others lives a defeatist life and is often lonely.
The desire for "essence" and "authenticity" is merely a shame faced elitism. There is no compromise, just growing up and adapting to a world of others.
Most teenagers would agree with what you have posted, Beysshoes.

The greatest defeatism of all has been exhibited publically by the Senate and House Democracts over Health Care Reform. Some people have resigned themselves to believeing this is the best our nation can do. That is not necessary.

PS I would be gratified if most teenagers agree with me. Hopefully, they'd go out and vote their conscience ... instead of blathering non-voted foam. meh
