Three cheers for the Lumpenproletariat Marx despised. Disciplined workers as the ultimate bearers of class consciousness betrays a burgher's(or bookkeeper's) priggishness. Marxism should welcome those who refuse to engage in disciplined labor. Lumpenproletarians shirking socially accepted forms of labor amply display keen class consciousness. To exclude them renders the anointed working class's "heroic struggle" reactionary.
